Brand New!

On October 1 (October 2 here in the Philippines), our new grandson, Quentin Rory Craig (Quinn) was born in Lethbridge.  Baby and Mom are doing well (and so is Dad).  It is hard to be so far away when I would like to be there helping them in these first couple of weeks, as I have with our other grandchildren. Amanda's grandma is not well, and I am far away, but she is a champ!  And she is getting lots of help from Ethan.  I am missing the new baby smell and the new baby snuggles, but we are trying not to be homesick and are grateful for FaceTime and photographs.

Grandchildren are such a wonderful gift.  I treasure each one in our family.  I appreciate their individual personalities, their talents and weaknesses.  They make our lives complete.  We love to watch them grow and develop into wonderful people, with tremendous faith.  How grateful we are that their parents are bringing them up in faith, teaching them to love their Father in Heaven and Jesus Christ, how to work and to keep the commandments.  They are learning to serve one another those around them.  They are the branches on our family tree, and we love to watch them as they mature and choose faith.

Something else we have discovered, that is "brand new" to us is Pomello...  I love it and could eat it every day.  It is just coming in season here, so we are eating it a lot.  It is like a giant grapefruit, but is is sweeter.  It takes a lot of work to get to the fruit.  First you have to peel away the thick outer skin, then the skin around each segment, and then you get to the goodness!  I am so glad that Sister Schmutz told me about this one!

As with all good things, it takes work to enjoy them.  When we are industrious, when we work hard, when we study hard, when we are diligent; we receive the reward. We receive the blessings of our hard work.  Sometimes we don't always recognize them right away, but they are there.  But if we just sit idly by, waiting for someone else to do the work, waiting for someone else to make us happy or successful, we will never receive the good.  It will sit inside the skin, waiting for us to act, but until we do, we will never know the sweetness within.

We love you all!
