Naguilian is a little town about 15 minutes north of Cauayan.  The have a beautiful little chapel there, with an outdoor font.  We have been wanting to get out there for a baptism since we arrived, and Saturday, September 14, was the day!



I was touched by the sweet and humble spirit of this young mother who was baptized.  He husband is a recently reactivated member.  She has a young toddler.  She showed up to her baptism, carrying her baby.  Her husband could not attend, because he had to work that day, but she carried on and went ahead.  Her  priorities were right.  It was more important to her that she receive the ordinance of baptism than to wait until here husband could be there.



It made me think about my priorities in life.  Do I prioritize the things that have lasting significance?




These frogs were camouflaged in the grass outside of the chapel, in an area where very few walk.  There were hundreds of them!

Thursday was a strange kind of day.  The compound was  silent.   We were alone.   Thursday morning, we took the Warrens to the airport to travel home.  They have been here with us for most of our mission, since October of 2019.  When we first arrived in the mission, there were 3 Senior Couples. Then we had 4, and then 5.  But in March of last year, things changed overnight.  3 couples went home in the same week because of the evacuation.  At first we thought they would all go, but the Warrens and the Becks were given the option to stay, and we were so grateful they chose to continue to serve.   We had each other to rely on through the long days of lockdown, as we all lived in the same compound.  We had sacrament meeting and lunch at the mission home every Sunday.  At first there was nowhere to go, but eventually, as restrictions were eased, it seemed we were going somewhere every day, helping the missionaries.  A lot of it was driving missionaries places, because their was no public tr

To Kiribati with love

April 1st of last year Sister Teweia's kabahays (roommates) with the help of her companion, Sister Taketi Reo, decided to play a prank on her.  They went onto her keypad phone and took their names off the contact list and changed it to say it was the Assistants.  They then sent a text from their number, telling Sister Teweia she was to immediately pack because I was coming to pick her up right away; she was going home that day.  Sister Teweia's scheduled departure date was April 8, but with all the craziness of evacuation due to Covid, anything was possible.  Both Sister Teweia and Sister Taketi Reo are from Kiribati, and the Church had hoped to evacuate them from the Philippines when most foreign missionaries were evacuated.  As we were amassing the missionaries to headquarters in Cauayan for evacuation, word came that missionaries from Kiribati and Samoa were not to evacuate to Manila and home because their countries had already closed their borders and their evacuation was n

Tearful Farewells and Happy Hellos

Every six weeks we begin another cycle here in the mission.  The departing missionaries leave, and the new ones arrive.  They both have one thing in common, they are scared to death!  This also marks transfer day, so it is a busy day all round. Going home! February 26th marked the Transfer/Departure/Arrival day for the mission.  The departing missionaries arrived on the 25th, to have their departure interview with the president, and also to get their luggage weighed and their accounts closed up.  Every departure gets harder.  We grow very attached to these missionaries, and it is hard to say our good-byes.  We have dinner for them that evening, and show a departure video and have testimonies. New Arrivals! Wednesday morning begins early, feeding everyone breakfast, then off to the airport to get them checked in.  After they are settled, we wait outside for the arriving missionaries.  As there is only one flight a day from the Cauayan airport, the departing missionaries leav
