Rain, Zone Conference & Hurrah for Israel!

This is rainy season, but you wouldn't have known that by our first two weeks in Cauayan.  Although it has been cooler, it was dry every day.  This week we had rain.  On Tuesday we started to receive storm warnings of an approaching Tropical Depression, "Falcon", that was upgraded to a Tropical Storm.  I was uneasy, having never experienced this kind of weather.  We talked of preparedness at Zone Conference, showed the missionaries the approaching storm, and then the heavens opened!  Rain poured down as Zone Conference ended.

Other than the Assistants and Senior Couples, none of the missionaries in our mission have cars.  They walk, and if they need transportation for longer distances, they use a tricycle or van or bus.  They watched for passing tricycles and started flagging them down.  The ones travelling to neighbouring towns would take a tricycle to the bus station, then board a bus for the trip home.

How many Elders can you fit in a tricycle?

We drove home in the rain, wondering if the storm would get any worse, and praying for safety.

As evening approached, we heard of high winds and rain in Tuguegarao, and had the missionaries there return to their apartments.  By morning we found that the storm had turned northward, and we were spared from any damage this time.  The storm has passed, but we have had rain most afternoons/evenings this week.  Much like thunderstorms at home after a hot summer day.

Our first round of Zone Conferences went well.  It was good to spend time with these wonderful missionaries and teach and encourage them.  We talked about working with members, scripture study, and the joy of sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah for Israel!

The first picture I posted today has had a message for me.  There I am, smiling in the rain.  Life is filled with rainy days.  Hardship, trial, loneliness, fear.  I have felt those feelings at times throughout my life, and had many of them over the last few weeks as we get used to a new place and new responsibilities.  But this picture helps me remember to have hope, put on a smile and face whatever comes.  Just as my umbrella protected me from getting soaked,  Heavenly Father is there, protecting me and shielding me from the elements, helping me to have courage.

I just need to open the umbrella.
